Wedding Day Weather: Embracing the Unpredictable

(Because sometimes the clouds RSVP, too—and that’s okay.)

Let’s be real: planning a wedding in Georgia during springtime is a bit like spinning a weather wheel. One minute it’s sunshine and birdsong, the next it’s “why is there thunder in the distance?” But before you start stress-Googling ‘clear tents near me,’ take a breath.

You can absolutely have a beautiful, joy-filled, and photographable wedding day—even if the weather isn’t 100% cooperative.

Rain on your wedding day? It’s not bad luck—it’s just a plot twist.

There’s a saying that rain on your wedding day is good luck, and whether or not you believe in signs from the skies, here’s what I do know: a little drizzle won’t ruin your photos or your memories. If anything, it gives your day character.

Plus, soft clouds give us gorgeous light, colors pop more than usual, and misty backdrops? Dreamy. There’s something wildly romantic about it all—as long as you're prepped and relaxed.

🌦️ Storms happen. So we plan ahead.

I’ve been so blessed with beautiful weather for every wedding I’ve photographed—truly, it’s something I don’t take for granted! But just in case the skies have other plans, I always come prepared.

And after photographing plenty of outdoor portraits in less-than-ideal conditions, I’ve learned a thing or two (or ten) about staying flexible, staying dry-ish, and staying calm.

Here’s how I help couples feel ready no matter what:

  • Backup location scouting. I always look for beautiful covered spaces just in case. Porches, porticos, oversized trees—if there’s shelter and decent light, we’re golden.

  • Clear umbrella magic. They're surprisingly cute and let in lots of light—yes, I keep some around just in case!

  • Flexible timelines. Sometimes we just need to wait out a passing storm. I’ll watch the radar so you don’t have to.

  • Creative problem-solving. That’s kind of my thing. Unexpected weather is just an excuse to get creative and find your story in a new, beautiful way.

📸 What matters most won’t be on the radar.

Here’s the truth: your day is about the two of you. It’s about the vows, the laughter, the quiet in-between moments—and that doesn’t change, even if the skies do.

I’ve seen how light bounces after a rain shower. I know how to adjust quickly and direct you so you still feel confident and cozy in front of the camera (even if you’re tucking your dress under your arm and giggling under an umbrella).

We might pivot. We might change locations. We might get a little mist in our hair. But the photos will still tell your story—beautifully and authentically.

💛 Final thought: Trust the moment

Even if the weather has opinions, your job is simple: show up, love your person, and celebrate. I’ll handle the rest—with backup plans, dry socks (kidding… sort of), and a camera ready to capture the joy through every twist and turn.

So here’s to embracing the unpredictable—and finding the beauty in it. Let’s make some magic, rain or shine. 🌧️🌤️
